APPEARANCE/COLOR: The heartwood of beech is mostly a light reddish-brown. The sapwood is generally a pale white or straw color, sometimes with a pink or brown hue.
CLEAR GRADING RULES: Natural variations in heartwood and sapwood coloration, along with allowable natural wood characters. Will admit the following: Limited small pin knots 1/8’’ in diameter, thin dark green or black streaks, green or black spots, small burls. The back side will admit: Occasional scant thickness and or waney edge if piece has sufficient bearing of full thickness to support it to the floor.
CHARACTER GRADING RULES: Distinct natural variations in heartwood and sapwood coloration, varying natural wood characters and sound knots. Will admit the following: Unlimited open knots and open characters not exceeding 1” in diameter that will fill readily. Unlimited pin knots, worm holes, checks, burls, dark green or black streaks or spots, some with slight checks in the center, and sapwood. Sapwood may be stained, blotchy or speckled. The back side will admit: Occasional scant thickness and or waney edge if piece has sufficient bearing of full thickness to support it to the floor.
